ChatGPT Business. Codex is included in the seat rather than sold separately, which is unusual in this category and is a real part of the value if your team writes software. Microsoft charges for GitHub Copilot separately from Microsoft 365 Copilot.

ChatGPT Enterprise, and you will have to ask what it costs. SCIM, encryption key management, domain verification, role-based access, custom retention and data residency across ten regions all live above the Business line, as does any published context window larger than 54K on GPT Instant.
Nobody on staff to run it
WorkAgent. ChatGPT Business still assumes someone assigns seats, sets spend controls and answers "what should I ask it". If you want the work done rather than a tool to administer, a flat-rate agent that returns finished output is the closer fit.

Why ChatGPT Enterprise pricing is hard to pin down
Enterprise publishes no number at all
The Enterprise card on OpenAI's pricing page reads "Custom pricing" and offers a contact form. There is no seat rate, no minimum, no volume table. Every per-seat figure you will find quoted for ChatGPT Enterprise in a roundup is somebody's recollection of their own quote, which is why the numbers in circulation disagree with each other so widely.
The page prices in your local currency, not dollars
Loaded from a European address, OpenAI's pricing page returned zloty rather than dollars, and the conversion is not a straight exchange-rate calculation. If you are budgeting in USD, check the page from a US connection or you will plan against a regional rate that does not apply to your contract.
Business has two seat types, and most write-ups mention one
Standard at $20 and Premium at $100 are both ChatGPT Business, and OpenAI explicitly lets you mix them in a single workspace. A five times price gap inside one plan means a quoted "ChatGPT Business costs $20 a seat" is only true for the seat mix somebody assumed. Price your heavy users separately.
The ceiling is a headcount, not a feature
OpenAI scopes Business to teams of 2 to 200 employees. That is the real trigger for an Enterprise conversation. Companies plan for a feature-driven upgrade and get a headcount-driven one, usually at the worst moment, which is while they are hiring.
Monthly billing carries a flat 25 percent premium
Standard goes $20 to $25 and Premium goes $100 to $125 if you pay monthly instead of annually. Both are exactly 25 percent. It is a clean, predictable penalty, which is more than can be said for most of this category, but on 50 Standard seats it is $3,000 a year for the right to leave.
Enterprise quietly offers metered pricing too
A footnote under the Enterprise card states that credit-based pricing and token-based pricing are available for Enterprise plans. So OpenAI now sells the same metered shapes as Microsoft, Salesforce and HubSpot, and is the only one of the four that publishes no rate for any of them.
Usage limits are a purchased feature, not a constant
OpenAI notes that Enterprise and Edu plans without flexible pricing carry the same per-seat usage limits as Plus for most features. A Premium Business seat, meanwhile, is described as five times the usage of Standard with no five hour limit. What you are buying at the top of this ladder is throughput, and throughput is priced separately from access.

The ten and fifty person rows are our arithmetic on OpenAI published annual rates, not figures OpenAI states. They assume a single seat type throughout, and a real workspace usually mixes the two. The nonprofit discount is OpenAI stated wording, "up to 75 percent", and applies to Business and Enterprise.
How much does ChatGPT Enterprise cost?
OpenAI does not say. The Enterprise card on the ChatGPT pricing page carries the words "Custom pricing" and a link to contact sales, and there is no seat rate, no user minimum and no volume table anywhere on the page. That is the honest answer to the question, and it is worth stating plainly because most pages ranking for this query quote a per-seat figure as though OpenAI published it.
What OpenAI does publish is the plan immediately beneath Enterprise, and for most companies asking this question that is the plan they will actually buy. ChatGPT Business sells a Standard seat at $20 per user per month billed annually, or $25 billed monthly, and a Premium seat at $100 annually or $125 monthly. Both were live on August 29, 2026. Ten people on Standard seats is $200 a month, fifty is $1,000, and the calculator above will do any mix you like.
The reason the Enterprise number stays hidden is visible in what Enterprise includes: volume discounts, custom legal terms, invoicing, SLAs and access to AI advisors for eligible customers. Those are negotiated line items, not a rate card. If someone quotes you a firm ChatGPT Enterprise per-seat price without naming their own contract as the source, treat it as a rumor. What is the difference between ChatGPT Business and ChatGPT Enterprise?
Start with the one that decides it for most buyers: headcount. OpenAI scopes ChatGPT Business to teams of 2 to 200 employees. Below 200 you can buy Business with a credit card today. Above 200 you are in an Enterprise conversation whether or not you wanted one, and Enterprise has no published price. Companies usually plan for a feature-driven upgrade and get a headcount-driven one instead.
The feature gap is narrower than the price gap implies. Business already carries SAML, SSO and MFA, centralized billing and administration, usage analytics and spend controls, connectors to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, workspace agents, Codex, and no training on your business data by default. Enterprise adds the controls a security review asks for by name: SCIM provisioning, encryption key management, domain verification, role-based access control, custom data retention policies and support for data residency in ten regions.
The quiet difference is capacity. On OpenAI own comparison table, the GPT Instant total context window is 54K on Business and 128K on Enterprise, which OpenAI translates as roughly 40 pages of text against roughly 250. Reasoning context is 256K on both. Response times are listed as "Fast" for Business and "Fastest" for Enterprise. So part of what an Enterprise contract buys is throughput and input size, not only governance, and that is worth knowing before you accept that the upgrade is purely a compliance purchase.
ChatGPT Business Standard and Premium seats: which do you actually need?
This is the part most write-ups skip, and it changes the bill by five times. ChatGPT Business is not one price. A Standard seat is $20 a month billed annually and is described as best for everyday work. A Premium seat is $100 and is described as five times more usage than Standard, with no five hour limit. OpenAI explicitly supports mixing the two in one workspace, under the heading "Mix and match seat types".
So the sizing question is not "what does ChatGPT Business cost", it is "how many of my people hit the ceiling". In practice that is a small group: the engineers running Codex all day, the analysts pushing long documents through it, the one person in operations who has quietly automated half their job. Everyone else runs comfortably on Standard. A 40 person company with 5 heavy users pays 35 times $20 plus 5 times $100, which is $1,200 a month rather than the $800 a flat Standard assumption would predict, or the $4,000 a flat Premium assumption would.
Get this wrong in the cautious direction and you overpay by thousands a year for capacity nobody touches. Get it wrong in the other direction and your best people spend their afternoons rate limited, which is the more expensive mistake and the harder one to see on an invoice. Buy Standard for everyone, watch the usage analytics that come with the plan for a month, and upgrade the handful of people who actually run out.
Is ChatGPT Business worth it over individual ChatGPT Plus subscriptions?
On price the answer is unusually clean: a ChatGPT Business Standard seat and an individual ChatGPT Plus subscription both cost $20 a month. Plus is $20 monthly with no annual commitment. Business is $20 only if you commit for a year, and $25 if you pay monthly. So the true comparison is $20 committed against $20 uncommitted, or $25 against $20 if you want to keep the flexibility.
For that same $20 the Business plan adds the entire administrative layer: SAML single sign-on, MFA, centralized billing instead of 40 expense claims, usage analytics, spend controls, workspace agents, and the default that OpenAI does not train on your business data. On the individual plan, that last point is a setting each employee has to find for themselves, and the billing is a reimbursement problem you will be solving forever.
The practical argument against is simply commitment. If your headcount is genuinely volatile, monthly Business at $25 costs you 25 percent for the right to leave, and individual Plus at $20 costs nothing for it. If your headcount is stable, annual Business is the same money as the consumer plan with the governance included, and there is not much of a case for staying on personal subscriptions. What it does not solve either way is that somebody still has to sit and prompt it, which is a different purchase from an AI agent that finishes the job.
ChatGPT Business against Microsoft 365 Copilot on price
These two land on the same desk more often than any other pair in this category, and the comparison is usually run wrong. Read off Microsoft on the same day, August 29, 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is $18.00 per user per month paid yearly, reduced from a listed $21.00. That is cheaper than a $20 ChatGPT Business Standard seat, and that is where most comparisons stop.
It should not, because those two numbers are not the same kind of number. The Microsoft $18 is an add-on. It assumes you already pay for a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription underneath it, and Copilot does very little without one. The OpenAI $20 is a total: ChatGPT Business is a standalone workspace you can buy on a card with nothing beneath it. Compare like with like and Microsoft publishes that too, because Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot is $23.50 per user per month paid yearly, all in.
So the ranking flips depending on what you already own. If your company is already on Microsoft 365, Copilot is the cheaper marginal seat at $18 and it sits inside the apps your staff use all day. If you are not, or if you are weighing the whole stack, OpenAI is the cheaper all-in seat at $20 against $23.50, and it includes Codex, which Microsoft sells separately as GitHub Copilot. What credit-based and token-based pricing mean on ChatGPT Enterprise
There is a single asterisked line under the Enterprise card that most readers scroll past: credit-based pricing and token-based pricing are available for Enterprise plans. It is worth stopping on, because it means OpenAI now sells the metered shapes that the rest of this category sells, and it does it without publishing a rate for either.
That is a genuine gap in the public record. Microsoft publishes a full Copilot Credit rate card and prices a credit at $0.008 prepaid. Salesforce publishes Flex Credits at $0.005. HubSpot publishes a credit at $0.010 and a line-by-line rate sheet. OpenAI publishes the existence of credit pricing and nothing else. If you are being sold a credit-based ChatGPT Enterprise contract, you have no public benchmark to price it against, which is a materially weaker negotiating position than the same conversation with any of the other three.
The practical advice is to make them convert. Ask what one credit costs in dollars, ask which actions consume how many, and ask what happens when you exhaust the allowance, because the three published vendors answer that last question in three completely different ways: Microsoft disables agents at 125 percent of prepaid capacity, Salesforce bills the overage in arrears, and HubSpot enlarges your contract for the rest of the term. Get OpenAI answer in writing before you sign, and if metered pricing is the part you dislike, note that our own price is a flat $149 with no meter behind it.
The discounts and edge cases OpenAI does publish
A few things on the pricing page are easy to miss and worth real money. Nonprofits can access up to a 75 percent discount on ChatGPT Business or ChatGPT Enterprise through OpenAI for Nonprofits, which is the single largest published discount anywhere in this comparison and turns a $20 seat into roughly $5. It runs through sales rather than self-serve checkout.
Education is carved out separately. OpenAI offers ChatGPT for Teachers free to verified United States K-12 educators through June 2027, and ChatGPT Edu as a paid campus-wide plan for universities. Neither is a route for a commercial business, but both explain why so much conflicting pricing information circulates: people compare an Edu quote against a Business rate and conclude the pricing is arbitrary.
On payment, Go, Plus, Pro and Business can all be bought with any major credit card, while Enterprise requires a sales conversation for alternative payment options such as invoicing. Business plans start at 2 users, so a sole trader cannot buy one, and the annual and monthly split is not uniform across the range: OpenAI offers monthly plans for Go, Plus and Business, and annual plans for Business and Enterprise. Business is the only plan that appears in both lists.
How to size a ChatGPT Business budget without guessing
Start with headcount and be honest about which direction it is moving. If you expect to pass 200 employees inside the contract term, open the Enterprise conversation now rather than at the ceiling, because you will negotiate better before you are blocked than after. If you are comfortably below it, Business is a card purchase and you can skip sales entirely.
Then split your people. Put everyone on a $20 Standard seat, run a month, and read the usage analytics that come with the plan. The seats that hit limits get upgraded to $100 Premium, and typically that is a tenth of the company rather than half. Doing it in that order costs you one month of mild friction for a handful of people and saves the five times overpayment that comes from buying Premium defensively across the board.
Finally, decide the billing term deliberately rather than by default. Annual is 20 percent cheaper than monthly at both seat levels, and monthly is 25 percent more expensive than annual, which is the same gap described from the other end. On 30 Standard seats that gap is $1,800 a year. Pay it if your headcount is genuinely uncertain and treat it as the price of an option. Do not pay it out of habit.
