In short

Last updated July 2026

Zapier Agents is Zapier's agent product, sitting on top of the integration network it is known for. Checked July 20, 2026: a free tier with 400 activities a month, Agents Pro at $400 a year (about $33.33 a month) for 1,500 activities a month, and custom Enterprise. That is genuinely cheap for what it connects to, and if your problem is moving data between apps on a trigger, Zapier is hard to beat. People look for a Zapier Agents alternative for two reasons: the activity meter means a busy month costs more than a quiet one and 1,500 activities disappears faster than it sounds, and it is a builder, so you configure the agent and maintain it when a step breaks. WorkAgent is flat at $149 a month with no meter, and you brief it in plain English instead of building. If you want thousands of app integrations on a trigger, buy Zapier.

What it handles

Where each tool actually wins

The jobs teams hire Zapier Agents or WorkAgent to do, and which of the two is genuinely the better fit for each.

Connecting thousands of apps

Zapier. The integration network is the widest in the category and nothing we do replaces it.

Trigger-based automation

Zapier. When this happens in that app, do this. That is exactly what it was built for.

Research and sourced briefs

WorkAgent. Ask a question in plain English, get a cross-checked brief with sources.

Lead generation and outreach

WorkAgent. List building, account research, personalized sequences and reply triage as one job.

Open-ended work with no fixed steps

WorkAgent. Jobs where you cannot draw the flowchart in advance because the path depends on what is found.

A bill that does not move with usage

WorkAgent. Flat pricing, so a busy month costs what a quiet one costs.

Why it works

Why people go looking for a Zapier Agents alternative

The activity meter

1,500 activities a month on Pro sounds generous until an agent that checks something hourly burns through it. The month your automation finally matters is the month you are watching a balance.

You still build it

Zapier Agents is configured, not briefed. You define the trigger, the steps and the tools, and you maintain it when an app changes its API or a step starts failing.

Steps break on messy input

Trigger-based automation is excellent on clean, structured data and brittle on the messy middle step, the one where someone has to read something and decide.

Zapier Agents WorkAgent
Free tier 400 activities per month None
Paid entry Agents Pro, $400 / year (about $33.33 / month) $149 / month
Included volume 1,500 activities per month on Pro No volume meter
Pricing model Metered in activities Flat monthly
Setup You configure the agent, its trigger, steps and tools Describe the job in plain English, no building
App integrations Thousands. The widest network in the category Far fewer. We do the job rather than connect your stack
Open-ended jobs Weak. Needs a defined trigger and path Core. The path is decided as the work is done
Maintenance Yours. Steps break when apps or inputs change Ours
Best for Teams that want their existing apps wired together on triggers Founders and operators who want whole jobs handed off and finished

Straight answer: if your problem is that two apps do not talk to each other, buy Zapier. At about $33 a month it is excellent value and we do not compete with the integration network. Come to us when the job is not "move this record there" but "figure this out and finish it," when nobody on the team wants to own and maintain the automation, and when you would rather pay one predictable price than watch an activity balance.

What Zapier Agents actually is

Zapier Agents is the agent layer Zapier built on top of its integration platform. Instead of a rigid multi-step Zap, you give an agent a set of tools, connect the accounts it needs, describe what it should do, and it decides which steps to run when its trigger fires. Because it sits on Zapier, it can reach thousands of apps, which is genuinely the widest integration surface in this category and something no general-purpose agent replaces.

Pricing, read off Zapier's own page on July 20, 2026: a free Agents tier with 400 activities a month, Agents Pro at $400 a year, which works out to about $33.33 a month, including 1,500 activities a month, and a custom Enterprise plan. That is a low price for what it plugs into. Note this is separate from Zapier's main automation plans, where the free tier includes 100 tasks and paid plans start at $19.99 on Pro and $69 on Team.

How the activity meter works, explained fairly

An activity is roughly a unit of work the agent does: a run, a step, a tool call. 1,500 a month on Pro reads as plenty on the pricing page, and for a handful of low-frequency agents it is. The arithmetic changes when an agent runs on a schedule. Something that checks a source every hour uses about 720 runs a month before it does anything useful, and each run may spend several activities. Two or three agents like that and Pro is tight.

To be fair to Zapier, metering is defensible. Work genuinely costs money to run, and charging for it is more honest than a flat price with an invisible fair-use cap. The friction is predictability, and it shows up at exactly the wrong time: the month your automation finally becomes central to how the business runs is the month you are checking a balance and deciding whether to throttle it. Flat pricing is our answer, $149 a month, run it as hard as you like. The trade is a much higher floor. A light user is far better off on Zapier at $33, and if that is you, buy Zapier.

Building automation versus briefing an agent

This is the real difference and it decides the purchase more often than price does. Zapier hands you a builder. You define what fires the agent, which tools it may use, and what good looks like, then you own it: when an app changes its API, when a step starts failing on an input nobody anticipated, when the process changes and the configuration has to change with it. For teams that want that control, and have someone who enjoys the work, Zapier will take you further than we will.

We built the opposite. You write "research the top 20 competitors in our category and tell me how they price" or "find 50 dental clinics in Texas hiring an office manager and draft outreach to each," and the finished output comes back. There is no trigger to define, no tools to connect, no flow to repair. The cost of that simplicity is control and reach: you cannot wire us into a thousand apps the way Zapier does. Nearly everyone unhappy in this category bought a builder while wanting a delegate, or the reverse, which is worth thinking through before you spend anything. We wrote up that decision in build or buy an AI agent, and AI agent software covers the builder market properly.

The other Zapier Agents alternatives worth knowing about

If you want a builder and Zapier is not the fit, the field is good. Make gives you a visual canvas on a credit model, with Core at $9, Pro at $16 and Teams at $29 at the 10,000-credit tier. n8n is free if you self-host and have someone technical, and EUR-priced in the cloud. Gumloop is around $37 on Pro and AI-native. Lindy AI is friendlier than most for non-technical users, particularly around email and calendar. All of these, like Zapier, still ask you to design and maintain the automation.

If you want a delegate instead, the comparison set is smaller. Relevance AI sits in between, a builder with agent framing and a two-meter bill. We are at the far delegate end: flat price, plain-English briefs, whole jobs finished. FAQ

Questions people ask when comparing Zapier Agents

How much does Zapier Agents cost?

Checked July 20, 2026: a free tier with 400 activities a month, Agents Pro at $400 a year (about $33.33 a month) including 1,500 activities a month, and custom Enterprise. This is priced separately from Zapier's main automation plans, where free includes 100 tasks and paid tiers start at $19.99 on Pro and $69 on Team.

Is Zapier Agents free?

There is a free tier with 400 activities a month. That is enough to test the product and run one light agent, but a scheduled agent that checks something hourly will exhaust it quickly. For sustained use you move to Agents Pro at $400 a year, or to a flat-priced tool with no meter.

What is an activity in Zapier Agents?

An activity is a unit of work the agent performs, such as a run or a tool call. Agents Pro includes 1,500 a month. The number matters most for scheduled agents: something running hourly uses roughly 720 runs a month before doing anything useful, and each run can consume several activities.

What is the best Zapier Agents alternative?

It depends on what you want. To keep building automation yourself, Make (from $9), n8n (free self-hosted) and Gumloop (about $37) are the closest builders, and Lindy is the friendliest for non-technical users. To stop building and hand off whole jobs like research, lead generation, outreach and reporting, WorkAgent at $149 a month flat. Zapier stays the best choice if wide app integration is the requirement.

Why do people look for Zapier Agents alternatives?

Two reasons come up repeatedly. First, the activity meter: 1,500 a month goes fast on scheduled agents, so cost moves with usage and is hard to forecast. Second, it is a builder: you configure the agent and maintain it when apps or inputs change, and some buyers would rather describe an outcome and receive it.

Is WorkAgent better than Zapier Agents?

Not universally. Zapier is better when you need thousands of app integrations, trigger-based automation, and a low monthly price, and we do not replace its integration network. WorkAgent is better when the job is open-ended, when nobody wants to own and maintain the automation, and when a flat predictable bill matters more than a low entry price.

What is the difference between Zapier Agents and an AI agent like WorkAgent?

Zapier Agents is configured and trigger-driven: you define what fires it, which tools it can use, and you maintain it. WorkAgent is briefed in plain English and decides the path as it works, returning a finished result. Zapier is metered in activities from about $33 a month; WorkAgent is flat at $149 with no meter.
