The comparison most buyers run, and why it comes out tied

Put the headline numbers side by side and there is nothing to choose. Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is $21 a seat a month on an annual term. Gemini Enterprise Business is $21 a seat a month. The enterprise versions are both $30. If the decision were made on the pricing card alone, it would be a coin toss, and that is roughly where most of the pages ranking for this query leave it.

The tie breaks as soon as you ask what else you already pay for. Copilot is an add-on and only attaches to a Microsoft 365 plan, so its real cost is the add-on plus a base license you probably already hold. Gemini Enterprise is a separate Google Cloud product that needs no Google Workspace license at all. So the useful question is not which seat is cheaper; it is which one costs less on top of the stack you run today. Worked example: a 25-person company on Microsoft 365 Business Standard

This is the most common buyer we hear from, so here is the arithmetic on Microsoft's and Google's published rates. Today the company pays $14 a seat for Business Standard, $350 a month for 25 people.

Option one is the Copilot add-on. At $21 list that is $525 a month extra, or $450 in year one on the $18 promotion. Option two is moving the seats to Business Standard with Copilot at $23.50, which is $587.50 a month in total, only $237.50 more than today. Option three is keeping Microsoft 365 as it is and adding Gemini Enterprise Business at $21, another $525 a month.

So for a Microsoft 365 business, the bundle is the cheapest AI seat available from either vendor by a wide margin: $9.50 a seat of real increment against $21 for either add-on. Ask Microsoft or your reseller whether you can move existing seats to the bundled plan mid-term before you count on it, because the timing of that switch is the one thing the pricing page does not spell out.

Worked example: a 25-person company on Google Workspace

Here the answer reverses. Copilot needs a Microsoft 365 plan underneath it, so a Workspace company would be buying an entire second productivity suite to get it. Gemini Enterprise Business at $21 a seat, $525 a month for 25 people, is the only one of the two that fits without a migration. Google also advertises a 30 day trial and describes the Business edition as needing no IT setup.

The question for a Workspace company is usually a different one: whether the Gemini features already inside Workspace are enough, or whether the separate Gemini Enterprise app is worth paying for. We cover that split in Gemini Enterprise vs Google Workspace.

Worked example: 500 seats on an enterprise plan

At 500 seats neither small-business tier is available, because both stop at 300. Copilot is $30 a seat on top of an enterprise Microsoft 365 plan, $15,000 a month. Gemini Enterprise Standard is also $30, also $15,000 a month. The list prices are identical to the dollar.

What differs is what the seat buys. Google publishes a pooled quota of 160 assistant queries per Standard license per day, which for 500 seats is a shared pool of 80,000 a day, and it states that one power user can draw far more than 160 because usage is not capped per person unless an admin sets a cap. Microsoft publishes no equivalent daily query number for a licensed Copilot seat, and it includes agents published to Microsoft 365 Copilot in the license for licensed users. What Microsoft's own comparison page leaves out

Microsoft publishes a page titled "Compare Copilot vs. Gemini Enterprise". We read it on September 22, 2026. It makes five feature claims, runs four customer quotes and answers seven FAQs, and it contains no price at all. Its answer on Microsoft 365 compatibility argues that Gemini Enterprise carries a "higher total cost of ownership" without putting a number next to either product.

That is a fair sales page and some of its points are real: Copilot does edit inside the open Word or Excel file, and Microsoft states that Gemini Enterprise connectors to Microsoft 365 "create a mirror of your data and store it outside your Microsoft 365 tenant", which your security team should weigh. But the cheapest way to buy Copilot, the $23.50 bundle, is on a different Microsoft page, and it is the number that settles this comparison for most small businesses.

Where neither is the right purchase
